Hunt elk and deer in Northwest Colorado.
Access 3000 acres of public property through private land. Lease our cabin and hunt our property and the adjoining BLM and many acres of public land nearby.
Our property is located in the migration route between the Flat Tops Wilderness area and the Axial Basin in NW Colorado, just 13 miles South of Craig, Colorado, known as the elk hunting capital of the world. Oak brush and sage dominate the mountain sides around our cabin. Deer and elk are found in the surrounding area year round with the highest concentrations of animals in Nov and Dec. Over the counter bull elk licenses are available for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd combined rifle seasons. All deer licenses as well as the either sex and cow only licenses are available through the draw process. This is some rugged area and hunting is done on foot. Guests stay in our two-bedroom one-bath cabin overlooking our property. Elk and deer can be seen from the deck and a there is always the chance of harvesting an animal from the shooting bench on the deck.
The cabin is a 900 sq. ft., with two twin beds in each of the bed rooms and a hide-a-bed in the living room. It sleeps four guests comfortably. There is a generator and solar panels to provide electricity and propane heat. Water has to be hauled to the cabin. Our system holds 800 gallons in the tank, with an additional 300 gallons in a portable tank, so water conservation is encouraged. There is a full kitchen complete with gas stove, microwave and ice box.
Hunting access is part of the deal. When you rent our cabin for the week, you get access to the 3000 continuous acres of BLM property adjoining ours. In addition to the adjoining public land, there are thousands of acres of public property within a 20 minute drive. Start your hunt when you walk out the door. The elevation of the hunting area is from 6,400 to 7,200 feet. There is a spring on the property that holds the animals in the area during the warmer seasons and plenty of forage to keep them well fed. This is not to say that you are guaranteed an animal, but the habitat is ideal for them year round.
